In mid-August, the President of the Swiss Historic Towns network, Kevin Quattropani, visited two historic towns in the Salzburg region that are part of the Austrian Kleine Historische Städte network. It was an opportunity to exchange views with the Mayors of the two towns during the meetings in the respective town halls. In Hallein, the city of salt, it was Mayor Alexander Stangassinger who did the honours, while in Radstadt, the city of sports, it was Mayor Katharina Prommegger who entertained the Swiss guests. This event confirmed the friendship between Switzerland and Austria.

The Swiss Historic Towns project was launched as an offshoot of the Most Beautiful Villages in Switzerland network. Founded in Lugano in 2015, the aim of the association is to showcase the most beautiful villages and historic towns in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and to publicise them nationally and internationally. Today, 51 beautiful villages and historic towns are members of the Swiss umbrella organisation. The Swiss Historic Towns programme is a partner of the Austrian Small Historic Towns network, which also includes the towns of Hallein and Radstadt in Salzburger Land.

The Kleine Historische Städte network is made of 16 small historic towns, hidden like little gems throughout Austria, they look forward to sharing with you their exciting historical past, beautiful ambience, enticing culinary delights and warm hospitality, far away from the hustle and bustle of big city life. Reawaken your love of life and joy of living by letting your stay in our towns help you rediscover what has been missing: more time to chat, more appreciation of the little things in life and more joy in truly relishing the pleasures life has in store for each and every one of us.
