Meeting in Crupet (Wallonia-BE), the International Federation of the World’s most beautiful Villages has invited Switzerland to join its Board of Directors, alongside Italy, Belgium, Spain, Japan and France, which currently holds the Presidency. The quality label registered by the association the most beautiful Villages in Switzerland has seen its status raised among the World’s elite, committed to enhancing village heritage and promoting rural tourism. Switzerland has been entrusted with the Vice-Presidency, and will welcome the mayors and representatives of the world’s most beautiful villages for the first time in spring 2027.

With 50 villages awarded the label, based on the selective criteria set out in its Quality Charter, the most beautiful Villages in Switzerland Association has built up a national network showcasing the very best in village heritage, including Gruyères, Morcote and Saint-Ursanne, recently named “Best Tourism Villages” by the World Tourism Organisation, and lesser-known villages such as Niedergesteln, Hospental and Bosco Gurin, whose image now extends beyond Switzerland’s borders thanks to the Swiss label.

In 2025, the most beautiful Villages in Switzerland’s label will celebrate its 10th anniversary and confirm the worldwide success story of the eponymous brand, which has already attracted other nations to develop its tourist merit : Germany, China, Lebanon, Russia, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Quebec. Liechtenstein has joined the Swiss Association with 2 classified villages.
